November 19, 2010 USS Hissem (DE/DER-400) Crew, For the past 12 years, Leet Vannoy performed the duties as Treasurer of the USS Hissem (DE/DER-400) Association. Leet served on the Hissem (DE-400) during World II and is a part of “The Greatest Generation”. Leet feels it is now time to turn over the treasurer duties to one of the DER ‘kids’. As of December 1, 2010, Ernie DeMarco will assume the watch from Leet and will accept all dues payments as well as the dinner payments for all reunions. Ernie served aboard the Hissem (DER-400) as a Quartermaster from 1964-1968. I would like to thank Leet for his hard work and for the time and energy he put in maintaining the association’s books. I would also like to thank his gracious wife, Mildred, for her support to Leet and the association. Mildred and Leet plan on attending future reunions so we can look forward to seeing them again and enjoying their company. I want to thank Ernie for accepting the role as treasurer. Greetings from the USS Hissem DE/DER-400 Association. The next Hissem reunion will be held in Orlando, Florida on October 2, 3 and 4, 2011. Checkout will be October 5, 2011. The Best Western Lakeside will be the hosting facility for the reunion. The room rate is $57.22 per night which includes a 13% tax and a $7.50 daily room resort service charge. The Retired Enlisted Association
(TREA) is providing the Military Reunion Listings as a FREE service to the
veteran community. I search the internet looking for reunions and then send
requests for the information to the listed POC. I sent 4,788 reunion
organizations e-mails, in calendar years 2006 and 07, requesting information on
their reunions, 61.5 % responded with information. We have 2,685 – 2006, and 07
listings in the archives. With the last listing update, we have 860 reunion
listings for calendar years 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. |
